SUMMARY:Mariachi Mestiza y Mala Mujer
DESCRIPTION:Andrea Daniela was born to be on stage; a singer\, violinist\, dancer and actor\, she is a proud Houston native and alumna of MECA\, HSPVA\, and UTD. She has spent half of her life mastering traditional mariachi music accompanying artists such as Yolanda del Rio\, Paquita la del Barrio\, Shaila Durcal\, and Espinoza Paz. In 2018\, she won Las Grandes Voces del Mariachi in Guadalajara\, Jalisco\, and in 2019 she joined the cast of the world’s first mariachi opera with the Houston Grand Opera. She has twice earned second place at the Houston Rodeo’s Mariachi Invitational (2016 & 2022) and in 2022 was played the lead role in American Mariachi with the San Antonio Public Theatre.\nHer debut album\, Mariachi\, Mestiza y Mala Mujer\, showcases a new genre she calls mariachi alternative—fusing the traditional roots of mariachi with unexpected global influences such as pop\, funk\, and hip-hop. This work is a powerful reclamation of voice\, identity\, and artistry from a Mexican-American: the daughter of an immigrant father and a fifth-generation Tejana taking ownership of all aspects of her cultural identity and pushes the boundaries of mariachi to tell the story of a woman who refuses to be put in a box—liberated\, empowered\, and unapologetically herself.\nPlease join us for an excusive pre-release experience. This intimate evening will feature live music of never-before-heard songs\, special guest performances\, and a live Q&A with Andrea Daniela and her producers\, as they walk you through the creative journey of creating this bold sound that. This stipped down live show mirrors the raw\, vulnerable energy of a Tiny Desk performance—personal\, powerful\, and unfiltered and takes you on a journey between tradition and innovation proving that art knows no borders.\nAll proceeds from this event will go directly toward the production of the album’s music videos. A grant from the Houston Arts Alliance helped fund the recording process and this event\, but now AD continues to raise funds to visually bring her vision to life. Your presence and support help make that possible.

SUMMARY:U.S. Army Field Band & Soldiers’ Chorus
DESCRIPTION:The Concert Band & Soldiers’ Chorus are the oldest and largest of The U.S. Army Field Band’s performing components.\nFounded in 1946 and 1957 respectively\, these two ensembles combine to present joint concerts on their national tours. They have performed in all 50 states and 30 foreign countries for audiences totaling hundreds of millions.\nThe 60-member Concert Band and 29-member Soldiers’ Chorus perform regularly in some of the most famous concert halls in the world\, and just as often in the humblest auditoriums in the smallest of communities. The joining of these two ensembles allows them to offer unparalleled versatility of programming\, ranging from orchestral masterworks and operatic arias to Sousa marches\, jazz classics\, and Broadway musicals.\nThe band and chorus also perform independently\, and have recently shared the stage with such ensembles as the Boston Pops\, the Cincinnati Pops\, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra\, and the National Symphony Orchestra.\nIn addition to their national tours\, formal concerts\, chamber recitals\, and educational outreach\, members of the Concert Band & Soldiers’ Chorus frequently represent the Army at formal and ceremonial functions\, including the Presidential Inaugural Parade\, presidential funerals\, the Army All-American Bowl\, and diplomatic efforts overseas.\nAll performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre are FREE!

Scott started making trips once or twice a month back and forth from Texas to Nashville in 2005\, signed his first\npublishing deal in 2007\, and for the last five years\, has been there writing for his current publisher two weeks every month. And while he writes songs that can find a fit in the musical mainstream\, he also makes it a point to write songs that are true to him. They tend to be so poignant\, passionate and personal that only he could sing them. Funny enough\, he never envisioned himself as an artist per se. He says that by the time he started making his trips to Nashville\, he had outgrown the desire to be famous. “It just didn’t interest me anymore\,” he insists. “My heart was in the off-the beaten path songs that had some real meat on the bone. And that’s not exactly commercial.” ~https://www.scottseanwhite.com/home\nSinger-Songwriter Narissa Bond will open!\nHer mother urged her to tell family stories. Narissa took that to heart — “When I write\, my ancestors speak to me.” And it’s a clear voice\, like the one in “Road to Berea”. Other stories flow through her songs\, some that are personal. Blessed with a warm soprano\, this award-winning musician has released several albums. You can hear her idols in her music\, from Joni Mitchell’s and Tracy Chapman’s finely crafted songs. But Narissa is her own woman. She studied classical music\, and jazz guitar\, and there are elements of that in her work\, as well as a nod to the blues and a strong connection to contemporary folk. ~https://narissabond.com/home

SUMMARY:Wells Fargo Presents Juneteenth: A Musical Journey Through Eras
DESCRIPTION:Juneteenth: A Musical Journey Through Eras” offers a poignant exploration of Black music’s evolution across two immersive evenings\, highlighting the soulful expressions of Classic R&B\, Blues\, Inspirational\, Hip Hop\, and more.\nOn June 14th\, the journey commences with a retrospective spanning 1960 to 1980. Audiences are enveloped in the spiritual resonance of Gospel\, resonating with the resilience and hope of a community seeking liberation. The evening progresses to the seductive allure of Classic R&B\, with its smooth melodies and heartfelt lyrics echoing the era’s social upheavals and quest for equality. Blues takes its rightful place\, infusing the atmosphere with raw emotion and introspection\, serving as both a reflection of struggle and a beacon of resilience during the Civil Rights Movement.\nAs the journey continues on June 15th\, the spotlight shifts to the dynamic years from 1980 to 2000. Here\, Hip Hop emerges as a powerful force for social change\, blending gritty narratives with infectious beats to chronicle the realities of urban life and systemic injustices. Alongside Hip Hop’s vibrant energy\, the evening embraces the lush harmonies and passionate rhythms of R&B\, showcasing its evolution and enduring impact on popular culture. Additionally\, other genres enrich the musical tapestry\, providing glimpses into the diverse expressions of Black artistry during this transformative period.\nThroughout both evenings\, “Juneteenth: A Musical Journey Through Eras” pays homage to the indomitable spirit of Black communities\, celebrating their triumphs\, resilience\, and cultural heritage. Each song serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring power of music as a vehicle for social change and collective healing. Join us on this unforgettable odyssey\, where every note reverberates with the timeless essence of freedom and the pursuit of justice.\nMiller Theatre Advisory Board and Wells Fargo present tonight’s performance of Juneteenth at Miller with additional support from Houston First and Walker Entertainment Group.\nAll performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre are FREE!
