DESCRIPTION:THE IDEA OF GOD: Is He the creator\, or is he my creation? Does God reside in art\, or is art a pathway to him? Do I seek Him\, or is She in me?\nThis solo full performance by Dr. Apoorva Jayaraman in the classical Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam\, explores the idea of God in Indian philosophy and thought through previously unseen texts and narratives. From the ancient Hindu scriptures\, the Vedas\, and the oldest Tamil language literature in the form of Sangam poetry\, all the way down to revolutionary and modern writings of the 21st century\, this visual journey probes the Indian understanding of God through the centuries.\nDr. Apoorva Jayaraman is a physicist and an astronomer who decided to made a conscious career change to dedicate her life to the pursuit of Bharatanatyam. She is the founding member of an organization that makes art interactive and accessible to one and all.\nSamskriti is deeply indebted to its funders who have made this program possible – the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance\, Texas Commission on the Arts\, Dance Source Houston\, and Enbridge Fueling Futures for a corporate grant.

Designed by Andrea Vázquez Aguirre and Maria Giovanna Falcone\, this workshop focuses on exploring and expressing concepts of possession and devotion through movement and gestural composition.\nAimed at performing artists\, movement artists\, and the general public\, the workshop is open to 20 participants\, preferably with experience in physical theater\, dance\, or circus\, and a strong inclination towards collective creation. Over the course of four sessions\, participants will immerse themselves in a process of constructing symbolic and physical actions.\nDuring the workshop\, participants will work on their own interpretations of the concepts of possession and devotion\, also exploring sensuality and violence. These themes will be approached from a mystical and religious perspective\, creating a dramaturgy that uses the body as the main medium of expression.

These themes will be approached from a mystical and religious perspective\, creating a dramaturgy that uses the body as the main medium of expression.

SUMMARY:Houston reVision CommUnity Night
DESCRIPTION:reVision’s CommUnity Night is a weekly get together for a hot meal\, music\, dancing\, and celebration. While primarily focused on school-aged children and youth\, and young adults\, reVision’s CommUnity Night is open to the public. The musical focus is on hiphop\, a live DJ plays music\, and children and youth can learn the fundamentals of breakdancing and other dance styles.
