DESCRIPTION:The Friends of River Oaks Theatre and Buffalo Bayou Partnership co-present this musical performance by TUTS and film screening of the monster-musical classic Little Shop of Horrors (1986) at the Buffalo Bayou Water Works. Starring Rick Moranis\, Ellen Greene\, Vincent Gardenia\, Steve Martin and legendary singer Levi Stubbs. The film features the one of a kind giant man-eating plant Audrey II\, an incredible feat of practical special effects and puppeteering.\nBring your blankets (some rental chairs available) and settle in for an evening of raucous botany-based fun\, including a pre-film musical performance by Theatre Under The Stars\, with an introduction by Artistic Director Dan Knechtges about the history of the original off-broadway play the film is based on and how they differ. Plus Nancy Greig\, former director of the Cockrell Butterfly Center\, will speak about the monsters of the botanical world. DESCRIPTION:Explore films that grace us with representations of authentic elderhood\, and teach us the essentials of aging wisely.\nThe most compelling films about wise elderhood serve as journeys into mythic territory — offering daunting trials\, vital awakenings\, necessary sacrifices\, and healing transformations. Movies bring the archetypes to life\, gracing us with unique characters embodying essentials of authentic elderhood: generativity\, integrity\, reflection\, reconciliation\, and the befriending of mystery. Depth psychology\, mythic imagination\, and the language of dreams will guide our expansive consideration of remarkable cinematic elders\, observing and amplifying the values\, attitudes\, and tasks of later life individuation. This seminar will include multimedia lecture\, analysis of multiple film clips\, cross-cultural ways of knowing\, and practice uncovering metaphor and meaning via cinema’s fundamental language of dream.
