DESCRIPTION:The 5th Annual Mariachi Festival comes to Wortham Theater August 23-25\, 2024\, in partnership with Performing Arts Houston. The Mariachi Festival’s mission is to celebrate and promote our beautiful and lively Hispanic culture\, that is such an important part of Houston’s history and diversity. Our goal is to make Houston a city that is known for first-class events featuring some of the best mariachi and ballet folklórico groups in the country and establish mariachi and ballet folklórico programs in schools.\nPerformers include the following:\nFriday\, August 23 at 7 pm\nOscar De La Rosa (singing with mariachi)\nMariachi 7 Leguas\nRio Grande Valley Ballet Folklórico\nCarolina Rodriguez (Grand Champion of 2024 Festiba Mariachi Festival)\nAttendees are encouraged to dress business casual for a light and wonderful evening of music.\nSaturday\, August 24 at 7 pm\nMariachi Mariposas\nUniversity of Houston Mariachi Pumas\nBallet Folklórico South Texas College\nWinners of the 2024 National Youth Mariachi Vocalist Competition\nYasmine Duenes (Grand Champion of 2023 Mariachi Extravaganza)\nAttendees are asked to dress to impress in formal wear for an evening of celebration.\nSunday\, August 25 at 3 pm\nMariachi Imperial de America\nMéxico en Danzas Grupo Folklórico\nEduardo Antonio Treviño (as seen on America’s Got Talent)\nAudience members are encouraged to sport traditional Mexican dresses and guayaberas.

Opening on June 15\, 2024\, The Health Museum will debut the U.S. premiere of MindWorks\, a hands-on\, bodies-on psychology exhibition on loan from the Ontario Science Centre.\nMindWorks brings ideas like decision-making\, memory\, and emotions to life through playful\, interactive exhibits based on cognitive psychology. MindWorks will encourage visitors to step into their own mind and explore how they think\, feel\, and react in a playful and exciting new way.\nResearched\, designed\, and fabricated by the Ontario Science Centre\, MindWorks lets visitors explore and learn through a fully immersive experience – from writing a song with building blocks to understanding personality traits. Visitors can try their negotiation skills to play the world’s largest Pac-Man game and engage in critical thinking as they squeeze through unusual shapes and explore consciousness with help from a humanoid robot.
