SUMMARY:Beetlejuice
DESCRIPTION:He earned his stripes on Broadway… now the ghost-with-the-most is coming to Austin.\nIt’s showtime! Based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film\, this hilarious musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz\, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes. With an irreverent book\, an astonishing set\, and a score that’s out of this Netherworld\, BEETLEJUICE is “SCREAMINGLY GOOD FUN!” (Variety). And under its uproarious surface (six feet under\, to be exact)\, it’s a remarkably touching show about family\, love\, and making the most of every Day-O!\nBeetlejuice contains strong language\, mature references\, and a lot of the crazy\, inappropriate stuff you would expect from a deranged demon. Recommended for ages 13 and up.\nPresented by the Memorial Hermann Broadway at the Hobby Center

SUMMARY:Ensemble Modern: Kurt Weill's "Seven Deadly Sins"
DESCRIPTION:Erich Wolfgang Korngold: Suite from Much Ado about Nothing\nArnold Schoenberg: Accompaniment to a cinematographic scene\, arr. Johannes Schöllhorn\nHanns Eisler: Selected Ballads\nKurt Weill: Seven Deadly Sins\, arr. by HK Gruber and Christian Muthspiel\nEnsemble Modern; HK Gruber\, conductor and chansonnier; Wallis Giunta\, mezzo-soprano; amarcord\, vocal ensemble\nIn a rare U.S. performance\, their first ever in Texas\, Germany’s famed Ensemble Modern performs the American premiere of a new arrangement of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s popular musical theater work\, The Seven Deadly Sins\, with acclaimed mezzo-soprano Wallis Giunta singing the lead role of Anna. The sound world conjures up Berlin cabaret\, but Seven Deadly Sins begins and ends in Louisiana\, evoking the exile of its creators. Music from the theater worlds of Berlin and Vienna round out this remarkable program.

SUMMARY:Carya String Quartet: Prototypes
DESCRIPTION:Beethoven quartets have become a staple of the quartet repertoire since they were written almost 200 years ago. In their sixth season\, the Carya String Quartet explores some of their favorites from Beethoven’s oeuvre while exploring the influences that Beethoven has had throughout the centuries.\nBeethoven’s Quartet in B-flat Major Op. 18 No. 6 lays the harmonic foundation for Caroline Shaw’s modern Blueprint. These works are paired with Emilie Mayer’s String Quartet in G Minor\, which typifies the Romantic string quartet styles which followed Beethoven’s legacy\, while also drawing inspiration from Bach’s chorales.
