Even as he’s pursued by aggrieved parties on all sides\, Don Giovanni sets about seducing the lovely Zerlina—on her wedding day. But the arrogant Spanish antihero everyone loves to hate meets his comeuppance\, and in director Kasper Holten’s brilliant production\, his descent into hell is not literal but mental\, as depicted by Luke Halls’s incredible projections onto Es Devlin’s magically minimalist set. Conducted by acclaimed Mozartian Dame Jane Glover\, the opera’s stellar cast will be headlined by charismatic Italian bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni\, an international superstar\, in the title role\, opposite sensational soprano Andriana Chuchman in her role debut as Donna Anna. The opera’s world-renowned cast will be headlined by bass-baritone Ryan McKinny as Leporello\, tenor Kang Wang in his company debut as Don Ottavio\, and mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke as Donna Elvira.

DESCRIPTION:The award-winning Houston Youth Symphony (HYS) culminates its 2023/24 Season with its Spring Concerts\, featuring all five youth orchestras\, at Stude Concert Hall at Rice University on Sunday\, May 5\, 2024.\nSpring Concert I\, beginning at 2:30 PM\, features Debut String Orchestra\, String Orchestra\, and Sinfonia orchestras. The program includes Cinema Paradiso by Ennio Morricone\, Sinfonia IV in C minor by F. Mendelssohn\, and Edward Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite.\nSpring Concert II\, beginning at 7:00 PM\, features the two most advanced HYS orchestras\, the Philharmonia and Symphony orchestras. The program features the 2023/24 HYS Concerto Competition Winners – Leah Wu (15)\, bassoon and Chanmin (Joel) Park (15)\, cello. Bassoonist Leah Wu performs Ciranda das sete notas by Heitor Villa-Lobos. Last summer she participated in the Tanglewood Bassoon Intensive and NYO2\, and this summer\, she will participate in the National Youth Orchestra\, which will tour South America.
