SUMMARY:Beetlejuice
DESCRIPTION:He earned his stripes on Broadway… now the ghost-with-the-most is coming to Austin.\nIt’s showtime! Based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film\, this hilarious musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz\, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes. With an irreverent book\, an astonishing set\, and a score that’s out of this Netherworld\, BEETLEJUICE is “SCREAMINGLY GOOD FUN!” (Variety). And under its uproarious surface (six feet under\, to be exact)\, it’s a remarkably touching show about family\, love\, and making the most of every Day-O!\nBeetlejuice contains strong language\, mature references\, and a lot of the crazy\, inappropriate stuff you would expect from a deranged demon. Recommended for ages 13 and up.\nPresented by the Memorial Hermann Broadway at the Hobby Center

SUMMARY:The Sound of Music
DESCRIPTION:A family-friendly classicA tale of resistance\, courage\, and joy  The Sound of Music\, whose story begins in the hills of Austria on the eve of the Nazis’ annexation\, resonates as much today as during the musical’s 1959 premiere. Acclaimed director Francesca Zambello incorporates songs from both the theatrical version and its famous cinematic adaptation into her new production\, a vibrant staging of the beloved story of the von Trapp children\, their stern father\, and the novice-turned-governess Maria who changes their lives. The Wortham Theater is the perfect place to experience Rodgers and Hammerstein’s original vision for their timeless musical\, propelled by the full power of the world-class HGO Orchestra and Chorus and a peerless cast including world-famous mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard as Maria and baritone Alexander Birch Elliott as the Captain. HGO’s Richard Bado takes the podium to conduct this classic family-friendly production.

SUMMARY:Carya String Quartet: Eternal Questions
DESCRIPTION:Beethoven quartets have become a staple of the quartet repertoire since they were written almost 200 years ago. In their sixth season\, the Carya String Quartet explores some of their favorites from Beethoven’s oeuvre while exploring the influences that Beethoven has had throughout the centuries.\n“Eternal Questions” will feature Beethoven’s Op. 135\, which opens with a question set to music: “Muss es sein?” or “Must it be?”. 120 years later\, Shostakovich asked a similar question in the final movement of his Third Quartet: “Why? And for what?” These existential questions are explored musically also by Nina C. Young’s 2013 meditation on life and time\, Memento Mori.

In the 6th grade she was kicked out of the children’s choir because she sang too low…her incredible alto voice already making itself be known. She would later get on her mare and sing to the cattle in the fields\, as Pierce says “They didn’t seem to mind”.\nSarah’s dream of becoming a legitimate singer began to take shape at age 12\, singing in her stepfathers band.\nAlways studying voice\, after receiving her degree in medical science she began her musical journey. One that she is still traveling today.\nSarah has toured hundreds of thousands of miles both domestic and foreign – receiving rave reviews at fairs\, festivals\, conventions\, and concert dates from New York City to Los Angeles and Northern British Columbia to San Antonio\, France\, Italy\, Germany\, and Scandinavia. Her willingness to self-promote her music has included a driving tour of 250 NPR/AC/Country radio stations across the country\, doing interviews and live on-air performances. In addition\, she has been seen in performance on MTV and was heard as the singing voice of Calamity Jane on the Emmy-nominated Time-Life television mini-series\, The Wild West. With the release of her eighth album\, Bring It On\, and the first single\, Butterfly Tattoo\, going to #5 in the nation on Independent Country Charts\, Sarah once again was able to show that she is an absolutely viable artist both commercially and more importantly creatively. Sarah then released her 9th CD\, Barbed Wire. Sarah’s new CD\, Blessed By The West\, will be released 4/22/2024! ~ https://sarahpierce.com\nSinger-Songwriter Brian Kalinec will open!\nBrian Kalinec is an award-winning\, Houston\, Texas-based Americana/folk singer-songwriter. His East Texas roots have combined with his urban experience to form his own particular view of the world\, which is reflected in his songs.\nA recipient of the “My Texan” Award at the 2012 Texas Music Awards for his support of the music and musicians of the state\, Brian is a past president of the Houston Songwriters Association and has produced a number of projects for other artists in addition to his own albums.
