SUMMARY:Mariachi Mestiza y Mala Mujer
DESCRIPTION:Andrea Daniela was born to be on stage; a singer\, violinist\, dancer and actor\, she is a proud Houston native and alumna of MECA\, HSPVA\, and UTD. She has spent half of her life mastering traditional mariachi music accompanying artists such as Yolanda del Rio\, Paquita la del Barrio\, Shaila Durcal\, and Espinoza Paz. In 2018\, she won Las Grandes Voces del Mariachi in Guadalajara\, Jalisco\, and in 2019 she joined the cast of the world’s first mariachi opera with the Houston Grand Opera. She has twice earned second place at the Houston Rodeo’s Mariachi Invitational (2016 & 2022) and in 2022 was played the lead role in American Mariachi with the San Antonio Public Theatre.\nHer debut album\, Mariachi\, Mestiza y Mala Mujer\, showcases a new genre she calls mariachi alternative—fusing the traditional roots of mariachi with unexpected global influences such as pop\, funk\, and hip-hop. This work is a powerful reclamation of voice\, identity\, and artistry from a Mexican-American: the daughter of an immigrant father and a fifth-generation Tejana taking ownership of all aspects of her cultural identity and pushes the boundaries of mariachi to tell the story of a woman who refuses to be put in a box—liberated\, empowered\, and unapologetically herself.\nPlease join us for an excusive pre-release experience. This intimate evening will feature live music of never-before-heard songs\, special guest performances\, and a live Q&A with Andrea Daniela and her producers\, as they walk you through the creative journey of creating this bold sound that. This stipped down live show mirrors the raw\, vulnerable energy of a Tiny Desk performance—personal\, powerful\, and unfiltered and takes you on a journey between tradition and innovation proving that art knows no borders.\nAll proceeds from this event will go directly toward the production of the album’s music videos. A grant from the Houston Arts Alliance helped fund the recording process and this event\, but now AD continues to raise funds to visually bring her vision to life. Your presence and support help make that possible.

SUMMARY:March 6 – April 11\, 2026 Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:BOX 13 ArtSpace is pleased to present four new exhibitions opening Friday\, March 6\, 2026 6–9 PM.\nBOX 13 ArtSpace is pleased to present in the front gallery: “The Classroom” by Darla Barolini is a series of large-scale figurative paintings that depict imagined classroom scenes drawn from the artist’s experiences as an educator\, exploring the emotional and psychological dynamics of learning spaces. “De-Documenting” by Beatriz Bellorín at Back Box gallery is a multimedia installation that transforms court documents from the 2025 case National TPS Alliance v. Noem to interrogate the bureaucratic logics of U.S. immigration systems. Through repetition and abstraction\, the work reveals how official language can obscure lived experience while exposing the human stakes of Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans. Amelia Key’s site-specific installation “Interstice” at BOX 13 Window BOX Gallery suspends PEX pipe and mixed-media elements\, creating a weightless pause in the flow of everyday life. “Out of Pocket: Memory” in Reverb is an exhibition by Jonathan Durham at Box 13 Upstairs BOX gallery that explores memory and cognitive decline through sculptural strategies drawn from Alzheimer’s behaviors such as looping and pocketing. Using repetition\, mutation\, and concealment\, the work frames memory as an embodied\, unstable process shaped by holes\, fragmentation and confabulation rather than any fixed archive.\nThe exhibitions continue through April 11\, 2026. An Opening Reception will be held on Friday March 6\, 2026 6–9 PM at BOX 13 ArtSpace\, 6700 Harrisburg\, Houston\, TX 77011.\nA special thank you to Houston Arts Alliance\, the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs\, The Brown Foundation\, Saint Arnold Brewing\, and all who have helped to support our programming.

SUMMARY:La casa de la abuela
DESCRIPTION:La casa de la abuela is an interdisciplinary performance that reimagines one of the most recognizable cultural spaces in Latino life\, the grandmother’s home\, as a site of memory\, identity\, and belonging. The program blends traditional Hispanic folk music reinterpreted by classical singers (Fernando Grimaldo and Luisana Rivas)\, original scenes inspired by the heightened drama of telenovelas\, and an exhibition of paintings by local artists. These elements converge to create an immersive environment that evokes nostalgia while inviting audiences to reflect on the themes of affection\, grief\, humor\, and faith. This trip down memory lane serves as a reminder for the next generation as well as creates a modern cultural experience that honors tradition\, community\, and connection.\nApril 19th at 6:30PM at Talento Bilingue Houston.
