SUMMARY:"Orna Feinstein: Full Circle" Art Exhibition Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Reeves Art + Design is pleased to announce their upcoming solo exhibition for Houston-based artist Orna Feinstein titled “Full Circle.” The exhibition will be on view October 4thth – October 25th\, 2024. The opening reception will take place on Friday\, October 4th from 6:00 PM – 9:00PM. Admission is free and open to the public.\nOrna has always been interested in the cross section between nature and art. Early on she pursued a degree in chemistry\, but soon realized that her passion lay in the arts instead of a lab. Shortly after she moved to Houston in 1984 she began studying printmaking at the Glassell School of Art of the Museum of Fine Arts\, Houston. She then went to the University of Houston and earned her BFA in sculpture.\n“Full Circle” looks to explore the motif of concentric circles throughout the extensive body of Orna Feinstein’s work. Fascinated by nature and botany\, she finds inspiration in the organic geometry of tree trunk rings\, wood grain\, and cellular images. While originally focused on exploring these elements through printmaking\, she soon began experimenting beyond paper. Her investigation led her to expand her practice to concrete\, plexiglass\, fabric\, and beyond. Recently returning to her artistic roots\, “Full Circle” examines the circular nature of inspiration.\nPlease join us on Friday\, October 4th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM for the opening reception of “Orna Feinstein: Full Circle” and for a chance to meet the artist.

Other visitors may serve as “pilots” using an interactive device to manipulate the array and guide your path. Over 150 LED bars are pixel-mapped to create a vortex of light\, pulling visitors through. This interactive art installation was created by the Canadian group BIG ART and the tour producer is Creos.

SUMMARY:5×5
DESCRIPTION:5×5 – 5 Rhythms\, 5 Highlighting Features for Each Rhythm.\nA Contemporary Evening of Kathak’s Traditional Repertoire Featuring Greater Houston Area Artists\nOn October 19\, 2024\, Houston hosts 5×5\, showcasing 5 rhythms from Kathak’s traditional dance repertoire with live classical music. This evening-length presentation highlights five distinct elements\, each featuring a different aspect of Kathak’s rich cultural heritage\, performed by local artists in a contemporary setting.\nThe performance presents five key features:\n1. Kathak (Dance): The evening commences with a dynamic display of Kathak\, a classical Indian dance form renowned for its intricate footwork\, spins\, and expressive storytelling. Kathak is performed by Kalpana Subbarao and Silambam Houston Dance Company dancers\, Neha Shah and Vruti Patel.\n2. Tabla (Percussion): The rhythmic heartbeat of the performance\, Tabla\, is showcased by the master percussionist\, Jason Zinn. The Tabla’s complex rhythms and beats add depth and vitality to the dance\, illustrating Kathak’s intricate relationship between rhythm and movement.\n3. Sitar (String): Adding a melodic dimension\, the Sitar by Dr. Rajarshi Bandyopadhyay brings a resonant and evocative sound to the stage. The performance highlights the Sitar’s ability to convey emotion and narrative\, complementing the visual and rhythmic elements of the evening.\n4. Harmonium (Organ): The Harmonium by Dr. Jyoti Joshi provides a rich\, harmonic backdrop\, enhancing the overall atmosphere with warm\, resonant tones. The inclusion of the Harmonium underscores the traditional and contemporary fusion of the performance.\n5. Hindustani (Vocal): Traditional Hindustani vocal music by Shyama Mishra anchors the performance with its expressive and melodic qualities. Shyama sings classical compositions that enrich Kathak’s narrative and emotional depth\, creating a harmonious blend of sound and movement.\n5×5 is a celebration of the vibrant cultural tapestry of Kathak and its continued evolution. This performance brings together skilled artists from the Greater Houston Area\, creating a fusion of traditional and contemporary expressions that will captivate and inspire audiences.
