SUMMARY:LIBERTY by Apollo Chamber Players
DESCRIPTION:Apollo Chamber Players’ season opener\, LIBERTY explores this nation’s noble quest to ‘secure the blessings of liberty’ for its citizenry – and where we have fallen tragically short. Legendary actor and activist George Takei joins Apollo to tell the story of his family’s forced internment during World War II\, as people of Japanese descent in America had their most basic freedoms stripped away in one of democracy’s darkest chapters.\nThe program also includes the world premiere of a newly adapted commissioned work by one of America’s most celebrated living composers. John Corigliano’s One Sweet Morning reflects a post-9/11 aspiration for peace and freedom from war and terror\, featuring one of opera’s fastest rising stars\, countertenor John Holiday.\nFinally\, Afghani-born composer Homayoun Sakhi offers a global perspective on the promises and perils of self-government and the eternal quest for liberty.

SUMMARY:Kronos Quartet and Sam Green: A Thousand Thoughts
DESCRIPTION:Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Sam Green (The Weather Underground)\, in collaboration with Emmy Award®-winning writer and editor Joe Bini (Roman Polanski Wanted and Desired\, Grizzly Man)\, takes the stage with the legendary group Kronos Quartet to create a “live documentary” that chronologically unfolds the quartet’s groundbreaking\, continent-spanning\, multi-decade career. Wildly creative and experimental in form\, A Thousand Thoughts is a meditation on music itself-the act of listening closely to music\, the experience of feeling music deeply\, and the power that music has to change the world.
