SUMMARY:Toc Toc\, une comédie de Laurent Baffie présentée par Et Voilà Théâtre
DESCRIPTION:September 6-7\, 27-28\, 2024\n8:00PM\n\nMECA@TBH-CENTER\n333 S. Jensen Dr.\, Houston\, TX 77003\nIn French with English surtitles.\nDuration: approximately 2h30 with intermission.\nThis play is appropriate for high school audiences and adults due to language.\nCreated at the Théâtre du Palais Royal in Paris in 2005\, the comedy TOC TOC was written by Laurent Baffie and has been seen by millions of spectators around the world.\nLaurent Baffie: “I always try to put people in situations where they would not normally meet. As a child I had an obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) myself\, and at the time\, people didn’t talk about it. As I researched the subject\, I realized that it was a serious issue and that it needed to be treated with sensitivity\, without making fun of the people affected.”\n\nIn this play\, six patients with six different obsessive-compulsive disorders meet in the waiting room of Dr Stern\, a specialist in the treatment of OCD. This internationally renowned neuro-psychiatrist only consults in France once every 2 or 3 years\, and never sees the same patient twice. But the doctor’s plane is stuck in Frankfurt. To pass the time\, Fred\, Sandie\, Blanche\, Marie\, Lili and Bob get to know each other and share their stories and their respective conditions. The final result is some real therapy\, along with a lot of bickering and humor along the way. A light\, funny play that tries to dispel all the preconceptions about OCD sufferers.

SUMMARY:HFMS presents Sean Scott White
DESCRIPTION:Suffice it to say\, Scott Sean White is a dedicated singer/songwriter and an artist that exudes emotion. His music is borne from real life experience\, complete with the hopes\, heartaches and happenstance that define that journey and the revelations that occur along the way. Scott’s success as a writer is firmly established. Major artists have recorded his songs and his own albums have topped the iTunes Singer-Songwriter charts. Scott started making trips once or twice a month back and forth from Texas to Nashville in 2005\, signed his first\npublishing deal in 2007\, and for the last five years\, has been there writing for his current publisher two weeks every month. And while he writes songs that can find a fit in the musical mainstream\, he also makes it a point to write songs that are true to him. They tend to be so poignant\, passionate and personal that only he could sing them. Funny enough\, he never envisioned himself as an artist per se. He says that by the time he started making his trips to Nashville\, he had outgrown the desire to be famous. “It just didn’t interest me anymore\,” he insists. “My heart was in the off-the beaten path songs that had some real meat on the bone. And that’s not exactly commercial.” ~https://www.scottseanwhite.com/home\nSinger-Songwriter Narissa Bond will open!\nHer mother urged her to tell family stories. Narissa took that to heart — “When I write\, my ancestors speak to me.” And it’s a clear voice\, like the one in “Road to Berea”. Other stories flow through her songs\, some that are personal. Blessed with a warm soprano\, this award-winning musician has released several albums. You can hear her idols in her music\, from Joni Mitchell’s and Tracy Chapman’s finely crafted songs. But Narissa is her own woman. She studied classical music\, and jazz guitar\, and there are elements of that in her work\, as well as a nod to the blues and a strong connection to contemporary folk. ~https://narissabond.com/home

SUMMARY:Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
DESCRIPTION:Everyday life\, forks in the road\, and dead ends forcing us to alter course as time moves on are all natural parts of the human experience. In this exhibition titled Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes inspired by the David Bowie song\, artists of Sabine Street Studios present works incorporating the ideas of time\, change\, and reflection\, connecting the past and the present\, all steering us towards an unknown future.\nThe exhibition is on view in the South Gallery and corridor of Sabine Street Studios. SUMMARY:Afi Ese and Jaymes Earl: Interconnected Opulence: The African influence on Black urban adornment
DESCRIPTION:The concept of opulence revolves around the symbols of wealth and status that hold significance within a particular community. This show highlights the urban trend of having gold teeth. Coined as grillz by Houston hip-hop culture\, gold teeth have historically held significance in the black community as a symbol of wealth\, success\, and individuality. In many African and African American cultures\, gold teeth are seen as a form of adornment and self-expression\, reflecting a person’s personal style and cultural identity. Additionally\, gold teeth have been used as a way for individuals to display their financial status and social standing\, especially in communities where traditional forms of wealth may not be as easily accessible. Overall\, gold teeth hold a special place in the black community as a symbol of cultural pride\, creativity\, and defiance\, reminding individuals of their heritage and the struggles they have overcome.
