SUMMARY:Spirituality\, Sexuality and Mortality
DESCRIPTION:Explore how spirituality\, sexuality\, and our own mortality influence the many complex relationships between our conscious and unconscious minds. What if the solution for transforming our chaotic world lays deep in our bodies and imaginations? Spirituality\, sexuality\, and mortality are three charged themes at the core of both our individual and collective psyches. Religious traditions from east to west\, myths\, stories and rituals from all cultures\, treat these themes as “pearls” strung together in timeless and universal patterns of life embedded in the natural world all around us. Confronting these themes is key to removing the “filters” that block access to a greater consciousness\, thereby allowing us to live and experience life to the fullest. Join us as we explore how these “pearls” influence the many complex relationships between our conscious and unconscious minds through an examination of art – especially the cave paintings of Lascaux – lecture\, and discussion.

SUMMARY:Toc Toc\, une comédie de Laurent Baffie présentée par Et Voilà Théâtre
DESCRIPTION:September 6-7\, 27-28\, 2024\n8:00PM\n\nMECA@TBH-CENTER\n333 S. Jensen Dr.\, Houston\, TX 77003\nIn French with English surtitles.\nDuration: approximately 2h30 with intermission.\nThis play is appropriate for high school audiences and adults due to language.\nCreated at the Théâtre du Palais Royal in Paris in 2005\, the comedy TOC TOC was written by Laurent Baffie and has been seen by millions of spectators around the world.\nLaurent Baffie: “I always try to put people in situations where they would not normally meet. As a child I had an obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) myself\, and at the time\, people didn’t talk about it. As I researched the subject\, I realized that it was a serious issue and that it needed to be treated with sensitivity\, without making fun of the people affected.”\n\nIn this play\, six patients with six different obsessive-compulsive disorders meet in the waiting room of Dr Stern\, a specialist in the treatment of OCD. This internationally renowned neuro-psychiatrist only consults in France once every 2 or 3 years\, and never sees the same patient twice. But the doctor’s plane is stuck in Frankfurt. To pass the time\, Fred\, Sandie\, Blanche\, Marie\, Lili and Bob get to know each other and share their stories and their respective conditions. The final result is some real therapy\, along with a lot of bickering and humor along the way. A light\, funny play that tries to dispel all the preconceptions about OCD sufferers.

SUMMARY:Aperitivo Italiano: The North Uncorked
DESCRIPTION:We’re delighted to welcome Rob May of Killer Vino to the Italian Cultural & Community Center for our Aperitivo Italiano: The North Uncorked! Enjoy a tasting of four wines accompanied by Italian-style light bites and discover how the many cultures that have occupied the region of northern Italy over the last 3000 years gave rise to the most diverse wine culture in the world. You’ll taste wines from regions that would be familiar to the locals and relatively unknown or misunderstood outside of Italy. Bring your thirst for knowledge (and wine) and you will leave satiated\, enlightened\, and with an energized curiosity to discover more about why la dolce vita is indeed so sweet.\nFacciamo un aperitivo!\nDate: Tuesday\, October 1\, 2024\nTime: 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.\nLocation: Italian Cultural & Community Center\, 1101 Milford Street\, Houston\, TX 77006\nPrice: $30 ICCC Members | $35 General Admission\nAbout the presenter\nRob May\, CWE is the owner of Killer Vino\, a Houston-based boutique wine shop and event space located in West Houston near the Memorial Villages.\nRob has worked in luxury wine sales for over 15 years. In 2014\, he resigned from his position at a well-known Houston wine retailer. He didn’t leave with the intention of starting a wine business. But\, at the behest of his customers\, who “bought wine from him\, not the store where he worked”\, he formed Killer Vino Corp.\nIn the early days\, Killer Vino operated exclusively as a virtual wine shop\, customer outreach was achieved through email offers and an online store. During the pandemic lockdown\, Killer Vino was an “essential business” and experienced exponential growth by providing wine delivery services throughout the city. In 2021\, Rob opened a storefront\, Killer Vino Brix and Mortar. “Brix”\, as it is affectionately called by people “in the know”\, is nestled in an enclave near the Memorial Villages that is home to neighborhood restaurants and boutique businesses. “Brix” is now considered one of the premier resources in Houston for wine acquisition and personalized service.\nAs a Certified Wine Educator “CWE” (via the internationally renowned Society of Wine Educators)\, Rob also sources a wide range of wines for his clients and tailors his selections to offer them wines for nearly any occasion. Whether fresh\, quaffable Prosecco for a weekday dinner with friends or a fine Super Tuscan or Barolo for a special evening\, he takes care of all of his clients’ wine needs.\nPlease visit www.killervino.com for more information and to sign up for the Killer Vino e-letter that features mailing list only offers\, upcoming events\, and entertaining asides that have absolutely nothing to do with wine.\nWhat does aperitivo italiano really mean?\nAn aperitivo (or apéritif) is often described as being similar to the American happy hour\, but in reality\, it’s so much more than that. An aperitivo is a ritual\, joyous and mood-lifting. It relaxes you after a day of work and prepares you for the night to come. The aperitivo has long been a staple in Italy\, and in recent years\, has been gaining more appreciation around the world.\nBy purchasing a ticket to this event\, you acknowledge the following: I understand that I am reserving a spot\, and reservations for this event are nonrefundable. If I am unable to attend\, I understand that I can transfer my ticket to a friend.\nThis event is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
