The weekend before Valentine’s Day, the East End Houston Cultural District rolls out the red carpet for a weekend of activities organized under the theme Fall in Love with the East End. Events kick off on Saturday, February 8 from 1-5PM with an arts and culture open house where venues throughout the district will offer the public behind-the-scenes access to exhibit venues, creative factories, performance houses, and music production studios where great art is made. On February 9 from 10AM-2PM, the fun continues with a Valentine’s market and tours of East End’s extensive collection of outdoor murals.

5301.18a Arts + Culture Lab is a transdisciplinary creation labroratory of artsits that experiment, produce and exhibit contemporary artistsic practives with a social and community focus. An old cafeteria built in 1920 to feed the workers of a historic industrial park now houses the exchange of harmonious coesitence between artists and thier cariou manifestiations. Through workshops, artis resdiecnies and cultual production gtatherings, the Laborarty achieves to be an oaiss of creativitiy, community and collective practieses that intend to form a self sustaining organisme thorugh the living culture of collaboritaon and the sharing or resources.

Aurora Picture Show

Aurora Picture Show is a non-profit media arts center dedicated to expanding the cinematic experience and promoting the understanding and appreciation of moving image art. Throughout the year, Aurora presents innovative non-traditional, artist-made film, video, and multidisciplinary works. We support artists, engage audiences, foster community collaboration, and seed the future of creative media-making in Houston through unique artistic and educational experiences. Aurora works with a wide range of community collaborators, regularly partnering with museums, organizations, festivals, schools, libraries, community centers, and hospitals to present an array of engaging programs throughout the city.

It’s a collection of colorful murals coming to Navigation Blvd. in Houston’s East End!

Extending from the Esplanade, the Calle de Colores serves as an iconic attraction for locals and tourists alike.

Each mural, crafted by local artists, tells its own story. Visitors can explore these stories as they stroll the oak-shaded Esplanade.

Canal Street Studios is one of Houston’s longstanding independent artist-run studio buildings – a private visual arts studio nestled right in the middle of Houston’s vibrant Second Ward neighborhood, housed within a beautifully converted 1940’s warehouse, the building consists of 10 studio workspaces.

Casa Pink

Casa Pink is a vibrant architectural project by Betirri, seamlessly blending his background in architecture with his distinctive artistic vision. A mural around ‘mental health’ by Betirri faces the railroad and Sampson street.

Betirri designed Casa Pink with a unique trapezoidal layout, shaped by the lot’s irregular boundaries. Each floor’s height is carefully tailored to suit the specific function of its spaces. During Open House, the gallery on the ground floor of Casa Pink will be open to the public.

Divine Shine

Divine Shine is a self carwash and detailing service in the Houston neighborhood of East End. We are dedicated to upholding the cultural heritage of this neighborhood through showcasing art from local artists and sharing it with our community.

Magpies & Peacocks, Inc. is the nation’s only 501(c)3 non-profit design house dedicated to the collection and sustainable reuse of post-consumer clothing, scrap textiles and accessories diverted from landfill – in order to disrupt the cycle of waste in the fashion industry and mitigate its enormous environmental and social impact. We work with an in-house team of designers, makers and artists to create unique up-cycled products, offer skill building and sustainability education, and incubate circular fashion innovation. Our model rests on four pillars: Collaborate, Create, Educate and Invest.
