El Jardin has been an East End staple for 30 years, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gonzalez. The building’s orange stucco, cobalt blue dome, and the carved and painted birds and parrots on the entrance doors serve as signal flares for the equally colorful (and somewhat noisy) interior.

And then there’s the food. “It is comfort food prepared like we make at home when we’re feeding our families,” says Joe Gonzalez II.
