On Thursday, June 15, Diane Schenke will officially retire as President of the Greater East End Management District, passing the torch to incoming President, Veronica Chapa Gorczynski. During Diane’s eight years of service, the GEEMD has been awarded more than $32 million in grant funding to support capital improvement projects throughout the community. Those projects include the award-winning Navigation Esplanade as well as pedestrian-friendly improvements to complement the East End METRORail and surrounding developments.

This past Tuesday, Diane was recognized at City Council by Mayor Sylvester Turner and members of Houston City Council for her service to the City. Mayor Turner proclaimed June 15, 2017, the official day of her retirement, as Diane Schenke Day in the City of Houston. That public recognition was followed by a small gathering where she was presented with a Senate Resolution from the office of State Senator Sylvia R. Garcia as well as a House Resolution from the office of State Representative Carol Alvarado.

A longtime resident and advocate for the East End community, Diane has been a leader in efforts redevelop the neighborhoods near downtown to boost the local economy. She has had a profound impact on the fabric of life in the Greater East End Community and her presence around the office will be greatly missed.
