East End Houston’s Historic Fire Station #2 Provides Public Bike Repair Station for Community Use
Built in 1910, the two-story brick and mortar engine house at 317 Sampson was occupied by one of Houston’s three original volunteer fire fighting companies. Construction of Fire Station #2 in Houston’s historic East End marked the transition of the city’s fire department from a loosely structured volunteer effort housed primarily in converted private residences into a salaried organization that was trained, equipped and maintained by the City of Houston.
FrenetiCore Dance and Inertia Dance Company Present Youth of a Nation: A Dance Retrospective of the 90s
FrenetiCore Dance, in collaboration with acclaimed hip-hop crew Inertia Dance Company, presents its first full-length dance concert since last winter’s The Snow Queen. Inspired by the resurgence of 90s popular culture in fashion, music, and iconography, Youth of a Nation offers a nostalgic retrospective of the decade through ten dances by acclaimed Houston choreographers, including Sarah Brotherton, Cori Miller Capetillo, Laura Harrell, Bryan Paul (Inertia), Ty’Esha Lewis (Inertia), Jennifer Hart Salter, Tory Pierce, and Heather VonReichbauer.

Eastext: Transforming the East End into a Moving Canvas for Poetry Projections
Multimedia artist Pablo Gimenez-Zapiola presents Eastext: a series of three live, mobile projections performances of poetry throughout Houston’s East End. These upcoming events will take place outdoors in different parts of the district. Each event will feature text projections on to the environment (houses, warehouses, buildings, etc.) from a moving vehicle, followed by an artist talk, recitations by participating Houston poets, and additional projections in a gallery space.
