Mason Park Needs Your Help to Earn a $20,000 Makeover

You may recall our ask last year to cast your vote to help earn a $20,000 award to the East End’s own Ingrando Park. The good news is that you listened, you voted, and thanks to your help, Ingrando Park received funding for new futsal court from a Meet Me at the Park grant.
Well the great news keeps coming: the Meet Me at the Park program is back and our very own Mason Park has been nominated for its own $20,000 makeover!
East End Street Market Hosts First Annual East End Comic Fan Festival

Live art demonstrations, local food trucks, and a cosplay contest were just a few of the highlights of the East End Street Market’s 1st Annual East End Comic Fan Festival. Vendors displayed rare and unique comic books and figurines while artists were hard at work producing comic fan art on site as well as offering one-off pieces from their portfolios.
Downtown Houston Seeks Public Engagement for Plan Downtown

The Houston Downtown Management District (Downtown District) kicks off the public engagement phase of Plan Downtown with the launch of My Downtown, an interactive survey and mapping tool designed by project consultant and international interdisciplinary planning and design firm Sasaki Associates.
“My Downtown is an integral piece of the community engagement strategy for Plan Downtown, a new 20-year vision that will position Downtown at the forefront of Houston’s advancement as a global city,” said Bob Eury, Executive Director of the Downtown District. “Along with text surveys, public workshops and topical focus groups, the My Downtown survey results will provide us with indispensible insight into the ways in which people experience Downtown Houston, whether they’re residents, workers or visitors.”
Greater East End Seeks Community Participation in Grocery Store Survey

The Greater East End Management District and other local economic development organizations are seeking to improve the quality of life in the East End and nearby areas, including an appropriate range of grocery stores. Community participation in the following survey will provide valuable information regarding future grocery offerings in this part of Houston.
YES Prep 2017-2018 Lottery Application Deadline is February 10
YES Prep is a free, open-enrollment, public school system serving students in grade levels 6-12. YES Prep was one of the first public school systems in the nation to make college acceptance a high school graduation requirement.
To apply, create an account and submit an application at yesprep.schoomint.net. There are no admission requirements to attend YES Prep; students are selected through a random lottery. Those who are not selected are placed on a waiting list. The deadline to apply for the 2017-2018 lottery is February 10, 2017.
