The Houston Dash, a women’s professional soccer team, entered the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) as an expansion team for the 2014 season.
The team began competing in April 2014 at BBVA Compass Stadium, the downtown home of the Houston Dynamo. The stadium is located on the edge of Downtown and near the Toyota Center and Minute Maid Park. The state-of-the-art, 22,000-seat stadium is the only soccer-specific MLS stadium in a U.S. city’s downtown.
The Dash are led by two-time title winning coach for the University of Notre Dame, Randy Waldrum and assisted by Lee Cullip. The team is owned by the Dynamo ownership group and operated by the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer.
They join the league as its ninth club and first expansion team. The eight other clubs are the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Seattle Reign FC, Sky Blue FC, Washington Spirit and the Western New York Flash.
