The award-winning Houston Youth Symphony (HYS) opens their 2024/25 Season with its Fall Concert, featuring all five youth orchestras at Stude Concert Hall at Rice University on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
Fall Concert I, beginning at 2:30 PM, features the Debut String Orchestra, under the direction of Jackson Guillén; the String Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Angela Peugnet; and the Sinfonia led by conductor Brad Smith. The program includes Themes from A New World Symphony by Antonin Dvořák, performed by the Debut String Orchestra; “Cossack Dance” from Mazeppa by Pyotr Llyich Tchaikovsky performed by the String Orchestra; and Slovonic Dance #8 by Antonin Dvořák performed by the Sinfonia.
Fall Concert II, beginning at 7:00 PM, features the two most advanced HYS orchestras, the Philharmonia led by Conductor Michael Isadore and the Symphony conducted by Artistic Director Dr. Michael Webster. Program highlights include Hiawatha: Suite from the Ballet Music,op. 82a – V. The Departuure by Samuel Coleridge Taylor and Overture to Le Cid by Jules Massenet performed by the Philharmonia; and Waltz from Swan Lake by Pyotr Llyich Tchaikovsky and Petrushka by Igor Stravinsky performed by the Symphony.
