Artists Wanted for New Murals Coming to Houston Neighborhoods

The City of Houston is gearing up to add another thirty-eight artworks to street-side traffic signal control cabinets throughout Houston and is encouraging artists to submit qualifications for the opportunity to create a mural. Known as “Mini Murals”, Houston now has over 170 new original artworks in neighborhoods throughout the city that have been funded by Mayor Sylvester Turner and City Council, as well as private sponsors.

East End District Partners with YES Prep for Magnolia Park Clean Up

The East End District recently partnered with the students and teachers of YES Prep East End to canvass the Magnolia Park community with door hangers. The door hangers educated residents of garbage, recycling, and tree/junk waste guidelines and specified their heavy trash pick-up day. The students and teachers were also joined by Council Member Robert Gallegos and his staff, representatives from the Department of Neighborhoods, Harris County Precinct 6, Houston Police Department, BARC, City of Houston Solid Waste. The event was additionally sponsored by Space City Credit Union and Frost Bank.

Houston East End Chamber Presents 5th Annual Education Symposium

The Houston East End Chamber of Commerce began the dialogue in 2013 to create a bridge between industry and education in order to create a workforce that meets the needs of businesses. The great work continues in 2016! They continue to discuss partnership models that are effective and are taking a look at the current changes in schools, discussing how industry can provide effective feedback, and calling for action.

East End Foundation Presents: PIÑATAFEST

A community event in the East End Cultural District coinciding with Cinco de Mayo, Piñatafest celebrates the ancient cultural tradition of piñata-making and the long-lived presence throughout the 2nd Ward. The event will showcase traditional and contemporary piñatas in a public setting, host live music performances and offer many free family-friendly activities.
