Newly launched Houston-based record label Diablo Rojo Sound announces La Jungla Fest on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 9:00PM-2:00AM
at Casa Luz in Houston’s Second Ward. La Jungla Fest is an immersive femme, queer, and music forward sound, visual, and movement-based art experience featuring sounds from the Caribbean, Latin America, and Africa. La Jungla Fest will feature co-founders and Houston-based DJs, MLE and Yanna, and special guest DJs Maldita Vaina (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and Mamicana (Chicago/New York City) in a debut as their DJ duo
“Vasofón.”
Maldita Vaina is a Lesbiana Prietx artist, facilitator and DJ based in the Dominican Republic whose current and past projects include Chinola Club, Rulay Parii, and Alte Karibe. Mamicana is a Chicago born, New York City based DJ, producer, and founder of Gyrate, a monthly party in Chicago which celebrates Black and Brown femme performers and sound and visual art across the Caribbean and Black diaspora.
La Jungla Fest is funded in part by the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance. The event is generously sponsored by Bacardi Rum, Equal Parts Brewing, and Topo Chico USA, and a specialty menu of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided and included for free with ticket purchase as well as light bites as supplies last. La Jungla Fest will host a curated list of vendors including Caribbean food by Chef Florangel Polanco’s Flor y Miel and handcrafted ice cream by Melou’s Creamery.

About La Jungla
Co-founding DJs Yanna and MLE started La Jungla as a way to celebrate their Caribbean heritage in a
femme and LGBTQIA+ centered environment. Representing their hometowns of Miami and Houston and
their Trinidadian and Panamanian heritage, they aim to introduce their unique cultural outlook to the
community through music and community fellowship.
