Laura Rathe Fine Art (LRFA) is proud to announce Man Made, a dual-exhibition of renowned artists Paul Rousso and Matt Devine. The opening reception will be held Wednesday, February 21st from 5-8pm at our River Oaks District gallery (4444 Westheimer Rd). Paul Rousso and Matt Devine will be in attendance.
Man Made serves as a celebration of the artistic prowess of both Paul Rousso and Matt Devine, two visionaries who bring unique perspectives to the world of contemporary art. The utilization of heat and physicality to manipulate raw materials being fundamental to their practices. The exhibition explores the intersection of nature and human innovation, creating a dialogue between the organic and the crafted.
Paul Rousso, recognized for his mastery of manipulating polystyrene into three-dimensional artworks, presents a series of works that challenge perceptions of materiality. The works debuted in this exhibition showcase Rousso’s latest development – mirrored color abstracts. The mirrored coating resembles that of a kaleidoscope, appearing glass-like upon first look. They invite the viewers to explore the depth and complexity of everyday objects, transforming the mundane into the extraordinary.
In contrast, Matt Devine’s metal sculptures convey a harmonious balance between strength and grace. Devine’s creations, often characterized by fluid lines and geometric precision, evoke a sense of movement and transformation. His sculptures, though made from powerful, organic materials, appear weightless in any environment, as if they could float away.
The exhibition will be on display through March 31st, 2024.
