Razón De Ser: Luis C. Garza

March 30 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free “La Raza” Documentary Screening MECA TBH Center (East End) invites the public to a special screening of the PBS documentary La Raza on Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 3 to 5 PM. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $5.
Produced by Artbound and distributed by PBS SoCal, La Raza tells the story of the influential bilingual newspaper and magazine of the same name, published in East Los Angeles from 1967 to 1977 by Chicano activists. Through powerful writing and photography, La Raza became a voice for the Chicano Movement, documenting the lived experiences, struggles, and resistance of Mexican-Americans in Southern California.
Following the hour-long screening, attendees will view a 15-minute short documentary about Luis C. Garza, one of the photojournalists featured in La Raza and a key figure in chronicling Chicano activism through his lens.
His solo exhibition The Other Side of Memory: Photographs by Luis C. Garza is now on view at MECA TBH Center (East End) through Sunday, April 6, 2025.
