Tribal Voices Art Exhibition

March 28 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Texas Photography Society is proud to announce its 2024 Photography Award to Houston photographer, Cressandra Thibodeaux, to present her new body of work, Tribal Voices. This visual art exhibition takes on two major issues for Native American communities; Blood Quantum and Environmental Racism. Through a series of portraits and interviews, this exhibition sheds light on how Colonialism is still having its lasting effects on Native communities.
2024 TPS National Photography Award in partnership with FotoFest biennial presents, “Tribal Voices” at Sabine Street Studios from March 28th to May 1st with an opening reception + artist talk on March 28th from 6-8PM. Sabine Street Studios is located @ 1907 Sabine St, Houston, TX 77007.
This art exhibition will highlight the Native Americans of the Isle de Jean Charles who are Louisiana’s first Climate Refugees. Most of the residents belong to the Isle de Jean Charles (IDJC) Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw tribe. In 2016, the tribe won a $48 million grant for the tribe’s resettlement . Because their Tribal Lands are 98% underwater they were moving to high grounds, around 40 miles North, outside of a town called Thibodaux.
This art exhibition was funded in part by the City of Houston though the Houston Arts Association.
