Virtual Talk: Black Soldiers and the Lone Star State during World War II

May 23 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Like many other areas of the United States during World War II, Texas saw an increased military presence as new military units were raised and posts were built to train them. Among them were many Black Americans who came to Texas to train for the war effort. While it is known that famous units such as the elements of the Tuskegee Airmen and the 761st Tank Battalion were trained here, many other Black units were also either raised in the state or conducted training here, ranging from Coastal Artillery to Engineer Regiments.
Join our Director of Exhibitions Cale Carter to learn more about the history of these units and their impact on both Texas as well as the war effort. Brought to you by the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission
