Come explore a side of Houston bursting with culture. Home to a thriving arts scene, the birthplace of Ninfa’s famous Tex-Mex restaurant and a stunning collection of murals, the East End has it all.
“Calle de Colores” is a cluster of murals along Navigation Boulevard that expands everyday, accessible, local arts programs and creates a strong sense of connection between destination points in East End. This project is a direct response to community feedback during our most recent cultural arts strategic planning process.
The oldest neighborhood in Houston, the East End consists of tight-knit communities, a vibrant arts scene and a robust business district. In 2014, the Greater East End Management District (now East End District) established the East End Houston Cultural District and developed the East End Cultural Designation Plan to create a sense of place in the neighborhood and designate the Navigation Esplanade as a central hub for art, history and community.
“Calle de Colores” extends from the Esplanade on Navigation Boulevard between N. St. Charles St and N. Delano St., an iconic attraction for local residents and tourists of the East End, to Navigation at Terminal, near the East End Maker Hub. Visitors to the Esplanade are able to enjoy the aesthetics and walkability of a pedestrian esplanade under the shade of oak trees that date to the founding days of Navigation and can then move along Navigation Boulevard to discover more of the East End neighborhood and new murals along the way.

The District is rich in historical sites and structures that connect the community to its heritage, as well as culinary traditions that offer visitors a taste of the best food Houston has to offer.
