Beethoven quartets have become a staple of the quartet repertoire since they were written almost 200 years ago. In their sixth season, the Carya String Quartet explores some of their favorites from Beethoven’s oeuvre while exploring the influences that Beethoven has had throughout the centuries.
Beethoven’s Quartet in B-flat Major Op. 18 No. 6 lays the harmonic foundation for Caroline Shaw’s modern Blueprint. These works are paired with Emilie Mayer’s String Quartet in G Minor, which typifies the Romantic string quartet styles which followed Beethoven’s legacy, while also drawing inspiration from Bach’s chorales.
