About the artist

DUAL is a Houston-based visual artist whose work explores the tension between street art and fine art, anonymity and recognition, and the built environment and the natural world. Working under a pseudonym, DUAL invites viewers to form their own interpretations of his work, allowing meaning to shift depending on where and how it is encountered. A fixture in Houston’s creative landscape since 2005, his early obsession with making marks began on the streets before evolving into a disciplined studio practice.

After earning a BFA in Painting from the University of Houston, DUAL developed a signature visual language rooted in hard-edge abstraction, vibrant color, and complex layering. His work often merges geometric structures with botanical forms, creating optical depth, movement, and compositions that push beyond the physical boundaries of the surface. His practice spans large-scale murals, paintings, sculptural works, and tape-based compositions derived from the masking process used in his painting technique.

Through partnerships with organizations including Houston Arts Alliance, Harris Health, and Harris County Precincts 2 and 4, DUAL has contributed to Houston’s civic landscape through his ongoing “City Beautification Project”. His work has been exhibited by the Chicago Truborn, Foltz Fine Art, Reeves Art + Design, MASH Gallery in Los Angeles, and Meow Wolf Houston.

About the Mural

From the East End to the World celebrates movement, culture, and community through a bold, immersive court mural rooted in the energy of Houston’s East End. Inspired by the neighborhood’s cultural diversity, the composition draws from a global color palette and uses flowing gradients, layered forms, and spiraling motion to symbolize connection, growth, and outward momentum.

At its center, the spiral reflects how local identity can radiate beyond its origin, positioning the East End as a hub of creativity and influence. The design was developed to enhance the court experience without disrupting gameplay, using color, rhythm, and visual perception to guide movement, support spatial awareness, and keep the court lines clear. Beyond function, the mural transforms the space into a vibrant landmark that invites play, pride, and visibility for the community.
